Brazil youngsters see off Russia

Brazil claimed bronze at the last FIVB Volleyball Women's Junior World Championship in 2009 but will be eager to to claim their seventh crown in Peru later this year
Moscow, Russia, May 12, 2011 – Brazil’s women’s junior team clinched a 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 26-24) victory over their Russian counterparts on Wednesday in Moscow as the visitors continue their preparations for the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru from July 22 to 31.

"We had trouble early in the match due to acclimation,” coach Luizomar de Moura said. “The difference in time which is seven hours is complicated. Also we did not know the team very well as they were not at the last Women’s Junior World Championship or the Girls’ Youth World Championship in 2009. However, the confrontation was important for us to face a team with European features and high physical strength."

Brazil has won six FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship titles in total (1987, 1989, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007) but will fight to regain top spot after finishing third in the last tournament in 2009.
